Virgin Australia boss lists Hawthorn home for $18m to $19m

Virgin Australia CEO Jayne Hrdlicka has listed her historic Hawthorn mansion Crossakiel for sale, with a guide of $18 million to $19 million.

The stylish five-bedroom Victorian-era home has been owned by Hrdlicka since 2016, records show, with the business high-flyer – who is also the chair of Tennis Australia’s board – paying $13. 3 million at the time.

Hrdlicka bought the property from Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation chairwoman Patricia Cross, who had owned it since 1990.

Known as one of Hawthorn’s landmark manses, the impressive home is set on 2097 square metres and includes botanical-style gardens, a pool and a tennis court.

Inside are all the hallmarks of the historic era, including leadlight windows, marble fireplaces and ornate ceilings.

But not everything is old-fashioned. The home has modern hydronic heating and air conditioning, especially welcome during Melbourne’s unpredictable weather.

As well as the ever-important home office, Crossakiel also has a wine cellar and tasting room – something not out-of-place in any era, including the 2020s.

While the asking price may seem steep, it is in line with house prices in the area. Hawthorn’s house price median is currently $2. 47 million, according to Domain data.

Other homes in the salubrious suburb have sold for around Crossakiel’s asking price, including The Terricks, an Italianate mansion at 11 Paterson Street, which was believed to have sold above the $20 million mark in January.

It had been advertised with a price range of $21 million to $23. 1 million, family that founded Sleepeezy Bedding – placing a caveat on the home at the time.

The listing of Hrdlicka’s home follows a move by the Virgin Australia boss and her family to Queensland to be closer to her role with the airline which faced financial difficulties both before and during the coronavirus pandemic.

Hrdlicka lives in Brisbane with her husband and two teenage sons, both of whom are reportedly handy tennis players.

The home has been listed for an expression of interest sale which closes on Monday, June 20 at 3pm.
